Germany Sees Widespread Arrests Following Gen Z Protests
Violence was reported in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Berlin, where smaller groups of radical protesters organized separate gatherings, built street barricades and engaged in clashes with security forces.
Earlier in the day, tens of thousands of young demonstrators took part in rallies coordinated by the Gen Z Regelt initiative across more than 30 German cities. Participants called for greater government spending on education, measures to address the increasing cost of living and opposition to proposals seeking to reintroduce mandatory military service.
However, tensions intensified after nightfall when radical groups organized additional demonstrations in various neighborhoods. The situation deteriorated as police attempted to disperse the gatherings and remove barricades.
Several protesters reportedly hurled stones, bottles and firecrackers toward officers, prompting security forces to deploy water cannons and specialized police units in multiple areas.
Firearms Stolen During Frankfurt Clashes
In Frankfurt, masked individuals who were not part of the main Generation Z rallies targeted commercial properties, breaking storefront windows and looting several businesses, including a firearms shop.
According to police statements, the group forced entry into the store after smashing its windows and took at least two guns before law enforcement intervened.
Authorities subsequently arrested one suspect and retrieved the stolen firearms.
The unrest also resulted in damage to a police vehicle, which sustained broken windows and punctured tires.
