Germany's Inflation Climbs to 2.9 Percent as Energy Prices Surge
(MENAFN) Surging energy prices, fueled by persistent tensions across the Middle East, drove Germany's consumer inflation higher in April, according to official data released Wednesday.
The country's annual inflation rate climbed to 2.9% last month, accelerating from 2.7% recorded in March, federal statistical office Destatis confirmed.
Energy costs led the charge, spiking 10.1% — marking "the largest increase in energy prices since February 2023 (+19.1% on February 2022)," Destatis stated.
Stripping out volatile food and energy costs, Germany's core inflation held at 2.3% in April, suggesting that broader price pressures remain comparatively contained even as headline figures push higher.
