Germany’s Import Costs See Decline in April
Conversely, export prices saw a modest uptick, rising 1% year-over-year during the same period, according to Destatis.
The sharpest decline came from energy imports, which fell by a staggering 11.2% relative to April 2024—making it the largest contributor to the overall reduction in import costs.
Prices for imported intermediate goods edged down slightly, recording a 0.1% drop compared to last year.
Despite the overall decline in imports, consumer goods brought into the country became more expensive, with a 2.6% increase from April 2024.
Destatis noted: “In the case of exports, the increase in the prices of consumer and capital goods had the biggest influence on the development of prices in April 2025.”
