Germany Stabbing Rampage Leaves Several Injured; Woman Held as Suspect
(MENAFN) Several people sustained injuries during a stabbing attack at Hamburg’s main train station, German authorities announced Friday evening.
Officials confirmed that the assailant, a 39-year-old woman, was promptly apprehended at the location. Hamburg police stated, “Based on our current findings, we assume that she acted alone. The investigation into the background is in full swing.”
Florian Abbenseth, a police spokesman, noted that the suspect, who holds German citizenship, exhibited no evident political motive. He further told a German news agency that authorities are investigating possible mental health issues.
Emergency personnel responded swiftly, administering medical treatment to some of the wounded aboard a train stopped at the platform. A representative from emergency services told the news agency that three individuals were critically injured, three others sustained serious injuries, and six suffered minor wounds.
Although multiple media outlets reported at least 17 casualties, police officials said an exact number had yet to be confirmed.
The attack triggered major disruptions at one of northern Germany’s busiest transportation hubs. Deutsche Bahn announced delays and rerouting for long-distance train routes as a consequence.
